Kakuzu is Akatsuki’s treasurer and its oldest surviving member, a mercenary from the Hidden Waterfall driven less by ideology than by money. Ruthless and short-tempered, he treats other members — and his own partners — as expendable assets.

The Earth Grudge Fear

Kakuzu’s longevity comes from a forbidden technique that lets him stitch stolen hearts into his own body, each one extending his life and granting a different elemental power. He carries up to five hearts at once, housed in monstrous masks that detach to fight as fire, wind, lightning, earth and water attackers.

Decades of grudges

Kakuzu’s history reaches back to the era of the First Hokage, whom he once failed to assassinate and was punished for — the origin of his heart-stealing technique and his bottomless contempt for authority. Age has only sharpened his greed and his patience.

Ended by a new jutsu

Kakuzu meets his end against Naruto, whose newly mastered Wind Release: Rasenshuriken tears apart chakra at the cellular level — destroying his hearts faster than he can replace them. The immortal accountant is finally, decisively bankrupted.
