Black Saints & Silver Saints Arc

The Bronze Saints recover the Sagittarius Cloth fragments from Ikki and his Black Saint counterparts, then face waves of Silver Saints sent by the Sanctuary to assassinate Saori Kido.

Once the Galaxian Wars end in chaos, the narrative shifts from public spectacle to clandestine warfare. The Black Saints arc functions as a mirror sequence in which each Bronze Saint confronts a corrupted dark counterpart of himself, and Ikki's motivations are gradually rewritten from villain to estranged ally. Kurumada uses these duels to deepen each character's moral interior — particularly Shun's relationship with violence and Hyoga's discipline of restraint. The shift to the Silver Saints raises the stakes dramatically. Where Bronze Saints command Cosmo at the speed of sound, Silver Saints fight at the speed of light, and Kurumada uses this escalation to force the Bronze Saints to break through their previous limits. The recurring lesson — that the Seventh Sense, the awakened Cosmo of a Gold Saint, can only be reached by understanding what one is willing to die for — begins here. Antagonists such as Misty, Asterion, Algol of Perseus, and the silver-clad assassins arrive with explicit orders from the Sanctuary to kill the reincarnation of Athena, identified as Saori Kido. The arc closes with the revelation that the Sanctuary itself, supposedly the holy seat of Athena's authority, has been usurped. The Pope who issues the assassination orders is not who he appears to be. The Bronze Saints, instead of seeking aid from the institution that trained them, must now invade it. This pivot — from protecting Athena from outside threats to confronting the corruption at the heart of her own order — reframes the entire series and propels the cast directly into its most celebrated arc.
