The party finally confronts the red dragon, and the long-promised battle pays off the cooking knowledge gathered along the way. After slaying the beast, they recover Falin's bones and Marcille attempts a forbidden resurrection, restoring Falin to life. The victory is brief. The deeper levels reveal that the dungeon is governed by a hidden master who controls death itself, and that the surface authorities are not the only ones interested in the buried kingdom. Rival adventurers, including Laios's old companion Shuro and the elven envoys of the Western lands, converge on the party with their own agendas. The arc deepens the cast, introducing Izutsumi, a cursed beastfolk girl, and complicating Marcille's relationship with the taboo magic she has begun to wield. What started as a rescue mission becomes entangled with the dungeon's true nature and the looming threat of the figure who has been watching the party descend.
