Shigeo Kageyama, nicknamed Mob, is the gentle, soft-spoken protagonist of the series and one of the most powerful espers in its world. A reserved middle school student with a famously blank expression, he was nicknamed Mob because he tends to blend into the background like a faceless extra. Mob possesses immense psychokinetic ability tied directly to his emotions, and when his feelings reach a hidden threshold his power explodes to catastrophic, reality-bending levels. Terrified of hurting others, he deliberately suppresses his emotions and avoids using his powers in conflict, longing instead to be recognized for who he is rather than what he can do. His true desire is simple and deeply human, to make friends, improve himself and live an ordinary, meaningful life.

Arataka Reigen is Mob's self-proclaimed master and the proprietor of the Spirits and Such Consultation Office, a small business he runs as a con artist with no genuine psychic powers whatsoever. What he lacks in supernatural ability he more than compensates for with a silver tongue, sharp wit and remarkable powers of observation and persuasion. Reigen began employing Mob partly to exploit his abilities, but over time he becomes a genuine, if flawed, mentor and the most important adult influence in the boy's life. Despite his fraudulence and constant scheming, Reigen possesses a surprisingly sound moral compass, repeatedly steering Mob toward kindness, restraint and a healthy outlook on life, which proves more valuable than any psychic talent.

Ritsu Kageyama is Mob's younger brother, a model student who is intelligent, popular and capable in nearly every way his brother is not, except that he initially lacks psychic powers. This single absence breeds a deep, conflicted envy beneath his composed exterior, since he both admires and resents the strength Mob possesses but refuses to use. Outwardly calm, responsible and well-liked, Ritsu hides insecurities and a darker, more controlling side that emerges once his own latent abilities awaken. His relationship with Mob is the emotional heart of his character, balancing genuine brotherly love against jealousy and a desperate wish to stand as an equal rather than living forever in his sibling's shadow.

Toichiro Suzuki is the principal antagonist of the series and the true leader of the vast psychic criminal organization known as Claw. An esper of extraordinary, almost unmatched power, he believes that overwhelming strength places him above all laws, morality and ordinary human concerns, justifying his ambition to seize control of the world. Calm, ruthless and supremely confident, Toichiro commands the elite Ultimate 5 and mobilizes Claw's full might toward conquest. He serves as a dark mirror to Mob, representing what raw power becomes when divorced from empathy and restraint. His worldview, that might makes right and that the strong are entitled to dominate the weak, is precisely the philosophy Mob's entire character exists to reject.

Teruki Hanazawa, usually called Teru, is a powerful esper introduced as the arrogant shadow leader of a rival middle school, where he secretly rules his peers and revels in his perceived superiority. Charismatic, talented and vain, he originally believes his psychic gifts make him special and entitle him to dominate ordinary people. His worldview is shattered when he challenges Mob and is decisively, humblingly defeated, including the loss of his treasured hairstyle. Rather than breaking him, the encounter reforms him, and Teru becomes one of Mob's most loyal friends and a steadfast ally. Behind his confident exterior lies genuine loneliness, and his growth into a more humble, dependable figure mirrors the series' central themes about character versus power.

Dimple is a comedic yet surprisingly endearing evil spirit who becomes one of Mob's constant companions. Once an ambitious upper-class spirit who sought godhood by manipulating a cult of worshippers, Dimple is defeated early in the series by Mob and loses the vast majority of his power. Reduced to a small, green, cloud-like form with red cheeks, he attaches himself to Mob, ostensibly looking for opportunities to regain his strength and former glory. Despite his selfish schemes and frequent scheming, Dimple gradually grows attached to Mob and his friends, offering knowledge about spirits, the supernatural and esper abilities, and often providing comic relief alongside genuinely useful guidance during dangerous situations.

Sho Suzuki is the young son of Claw's leader, Toichiro Suzuki, and a powerful esper in his own right who was raised and trained within the organization. Mischievous, cunning and rebellious, Sho grew disillusioned with his father's brutal ideology and ambition for world domination, ultimately choosing to oppose Claw from within. Despite his youth, he is clever and resourceful, orchestrating schemes to undermine his father's plans and protect the people who might otherwise be crushed by Claw's conquest. Beneath his playful, troublemaking exterior lies a child grappling with a difficult family legacy and a genuine desire to forge his own path apart from the cruelty and tyranny his father represents.

Tsubomi Takane is Mob's longtime childhood friend and the object of his quiet, enduring crush, a relationship that serves as one of the personal motivations driving his desire for self-improvement. Calm, kind and grounded, Tsubomi is one of the few people who has always treated Mob as an ordinary boy rather than reacting to his powers, which is precisely why he values her so deeply. Though she appears infrequently and largely outside the supernatural conflicts, her presence looms large over Mob's emotional journey, representing the normal, human connection he yearns for. His wish to become someone worthy in her eyes underpins much of his effort to grow as a person throughout the series.
