The Entrance Exam arc represents the emotional and dramatic climax of the first major portion of Blue Period, as Yatora confronts the notoriously difficult and selective entrance examination for the Tokyo University of the Arts, known as Geidai. The university admits only a tiny number of applicants each year, meaning Yatora competes against the most talented art students in the country for an extremely limited number of spots. The arc captures the immense pressure, anxiety and physical exhaustion of the multi day examination process, which includes both a primary screening and a grueling second stage where applicants create extensive original artwork under timed conditions while examiners evaluate their potential. During the oil painting portion, Yatora confronts an abstract and intimidating theme that challenges him to express something deeply personal rather than merely technically proficient. He pours himself completely into his work across the three day exam, battling fear, comparison to other examinees and the constant worry that his effort may not be enough.
