The Mugen Train arc takes Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Inosuke Hashibira aboard a night train alongside the legendary Flame Hashira Rengoku Kyojuro to investigate forty missing passengers — the latest victims in a pattern of supernatural disappearances tied to the train line. The culprit is Enmu, one of Muzan Kibutsuji's Lower Rank Twelve Kizuki demons, who has developed the ability to enter people's dreams and destroy their spiritual core from within. The arc opens as the demon slayers succumb to Enmu's sleeping spell, each entering dream states crafted from their most precious desires. Tanjiro dreams of his family — the family Muzan destroyed — and the heartbreaking beauty of those dreams makes his determination to break free from them even more emotionally devastating. What follows is a race against time as the protagonists fight to wake themselves and protect the unconscious passengers. Once Enmu is defeated, however, the arc reveals its true emotional centerpiece: the arrival of Upper Rank Three, Akaza. The battle between Akaza and Rengoku is one of the defining sequences in the entire manga — an all-out clash between the Flame Hashira's absolute peak and a demon whose regenerative power and centuries of accumulated technique make him nearly invincible.
